VICEPRESIDENT OF RECREA
EXPRESSIVE ARTS THERAPIST
PROFESSIONAL FAMILY COUNSELOR
Since 2004, I help children and adults cope with anxiety and stressors related to developmental disorders, chronic illnesses, grief and trauma. I have worked in hospital and university settings in the U.S.A., as well as public mental health services and private practice in Southern Italy.
As a professional family counselor with formal training in dance, creative writing, drawing, and painting I chose to specialize in Art and Dance/Movement Therapy because of my personal experience with the healing power of the creative arts in the midst of trauma and chronic illness.
Over the years, by combining talk therapy with an art-based, body-informed approach to counseling I have witnessed how working on the mind through the body, brings significant changes in personality, even in situations where verbal communication is limited or compromised by age or illness.
Born American and raised Italian, I have mastered the art of integration. From the assimilation of two languages and cultures, to the synthesis of diverse areas of study, I am most passionate about exploring the relationship between creativity and mental health, somatic practices for grief work, and promoting the communicative, therapeutic and rehabilitative power of movement across developmental stages and challenges.
I hold a four-year diploma in Art and Dance/Movement Therapy (Art Therapy Italiana, Bologna, 2018); a three-year diploma in Family Counseling (Apulian School of Family Counseling, Taranto, 2011); and a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Family Counseling (Johnson University, Knoxville, 2005). Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Bergamo.
